    What Is High Strength BT22 Titanium Rod for Industrial Use?
     
    BT22 (domestic equivalent grade TC18) is a near-β Titanium Alloy with high hardenability and ultra high strength. Its nominal alloy composition is Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-1Cr-1Fe, and it is a specialty Titanium Material developed domestically as a counterpart to the Russian high end aerospace titanium alloy BT22. This titanium material differs from the conventional TC4 (Gr5) pure α-β titanium alloys available on the market, offering superior hardenability, strength reserve, and structural stability. It is currently the high strength titanium alloy bar of choice in China for high end heavy duty structures, aerospace load bearing components, military equipment, and deep sea oil and gas equipment.
    The primary advantages of BT22/TC18 Titanium Bar lies in their full hardenability across large cross sections, high strength, high toughness, fatigue resistance, and resistance to stress corrosion. These properties address industry pain points associated with traditional titanium alloys used in large-sized workpieces, such as uneven heat treatment, insufficient strength, and susceptibility to fatigue fracture. This grade has no corresponding ASTM Grade in the United States and no equivalent U.S. standard designation; it belongs to the Russian-developed high-end specialty titanium alloy system and cannot be substituted with materials such as Gr5, Gr23, or Gr19.
     
    Key Physical and Mechanical Properties
     
    After solution treatment and aging heat treatment, BT22/TC18 significantly outperforms conventional TC4 titanium alloys in mechanical properties, offering a combination of high strength and high toughness:
     
    • Ultra-high tensile strength: Strength is significantly enhanced after heat treatment, providing exceptional load-bearing capacity and making it suitable for high-strength, alternating, and impact load conditions.
     
    • Excellent hardenability in large cross-sections: This is the alloy’s standout feature. Large-diameter bars and thick, large forging blanks can be uniformly hardened throughout, ensuring consistent properties between the core and surface without any internal-external performance discrepancies, thereby resolving the issue of performance degradation in large-sized titanium components.
     
    • High toughness, low brittleness: Retains good plasticity and impact toughness while maintaining high strength, offering strong structural stability and resistance to brittle fracture and cracking.
     
    • Excellent fatigue resistance: Resists cyclic fatigue and structural relaxation; its service life under long-term, high-frequency loading conditions far exceeds that of ordinary titanium alloys and alloy steels.
     
    • Strong resistance to stress corrosion: Exhibits excellent resistance to cracking and corrosion fatigue in humid environments, salt spray, seawater, and oil and gas media.
     
    • Low density and lightweight: With a density of only 4.65 g/cm³, it is approximately 40% lighter than high-strength steel, delivering the dual advantages of high strength and lightweight design.

    Many customers typically choose TC4/Gr5 titanium alloys, but TC4 falls short in applications involving heavy loads, high strength, and large-cross-section structures. BT22/TC18, however, is an upgraded, high-end alternative:
